I did it! Oh my god, I am the most amazing person that has ever walked the face of the planet! Not only did I run for 3 straight minutes once, but I also did it a second time! Who knew I was capable of such things?

You know what this means, right? This means my cardiovascular strength is improving in leaps and bounds. Rock on!

Now let's see if I can do it again tomorrow...

The world of running is separated into two separate, but equal parts. The poli.. er, the lifetime atheletes who've been running since they can remember, and the rest of us. Speaking on behalf of the rest of us, I'd like to say:

Congratulations. We know how much that means. Do you know why? Because we've been there too. The painful shame of not being able to do a 12:00 pace down to the end of the block. The agony of sore muscles and second thoughts after trying to "sprint". And you know what?

It goes away. Pain is simply weakness leaving the body. With time - and really its a surprisingly small time investment in yourself - your old limitations will fall by the wayside. Three minutes, twice in a row. Very cool. Keep moving, running, extending, and challenging yourself. Set an unreachable goal and, as the saying amongst the RBF goes, "kick that bitches ass."

Oh - and in answer to your rhetorical question? At some level, you knew that you were capable of such things. You just proved it to yourself. And tomorrow? You'll do it again. And again, and again, until you finally believe it. Then you move onward, move upward. And whatever you do - have fun while you do it!

Yay Margaret! That's incredible. I wonder what possessed you to do it *again* after doing it once? Whatever it was, use it! Did you know the very first time that I "ran" I jogged to the end of the block and had to *walk* back? xoxo Mia
